932,985. Metalworking presses; blanks transferring. SMERALOVY ZAVODY, NARODNI PODNIK. Nov. 13, 1961 [Nov. 17, 1960], No. 40462/61. Class 83 (4). A transfer mechanism for transferring a workpiece between dies in a pressing machine, whose ram is operated by a crank mechanism, has gripping jaws driven from the crank, said jaws moving in a plane normal to the die axis. Jaws 6 are traversed in direction S (Fig. 2) by moving shafts 12 longitudinally, and transverse gripping motion is applied by rotation of shafts 12 which carry pinions meshing with racks in the underface of each gripper 6. Both axial displacement and rotation of the shafts 12 is derived from an eccentric pin 25 (Fig. 3) mounted on one of the press actuating connecting rods 22. Gripping movement of the jaws.-Movement of the pin 25 (Fig. 3) about an elliptical path e causes the ends of rocker 34 to oscillate about a centre 35 which, through link 36 and linkage 38, 39, 40 results in oscillatory rotation of the two shafts 40. Transfer movement of the jaws.-From the eccentric pin 25 there is driven a second linkage 26, 27, 29 to a bell-crank lever 30 which imparts a pure linear motion in direction S (Fig. 3) to the cross-member 14 rigidly attached to the shafts 12 (Fig. 2). The pivot points and lengths of various links in the jaw actuating mechanism are adjustable so as to vary the timing and magnitude of the jaw movements.
