Abstract

932,529. Typewriters. R. FONDILLER. May 18, 1962 [May 22, 1961], No. 19330/62. Class 100 (4). Paper supports.-A combined paper guide and character position-indicating device for a typewriter consists of a member 7 of transparent material having two major faces 20, 29 of which the face 20 is marked both with a straight line 23 parallel with the longitudinal axis of the member and with graduations 22 intersecting the line 23 at right-angles to define letter-spacings, the member also having a slot 21 extending from the upper edge and intersecting the line 23 to permit passage of a typebar through the thickness of the member. The member is held in brackets 9 which grip the lower portion thereof and which are adjustably secured to the typewriter by screws passing through slots 10 therein. The brackets 9 are of resilient material so that the face 20 of the member 7 is spring-urged into contact with the typewriter platen or the paper thereon, this face being concave so as to fit round the platen. The face 20 is bevelled at 34 to guide the transverse edges of stiff paper or card under the device as the carriage reciprocates. The face 29 has convex portions 30, which magnify the underlying typewritten matter, and is grooved at 32 to accommodate a ribbon vibrator. Ruling devices.-A hole 25 in the member 7 serves as a guide for the writing end of a pencil, vertical and horizontal lines being drawn on the paper in the machine by rotation of the platen and traversing of the carriage respectively.
