Abstract
932,416. Collating sheets. LEIPZIGER BUCHBINDEREIMASCHINENWERKE VEB. May 17, 1962, No. 19124/62. Class 100(1). A collating machine has a plurality of stations 2 at which sheets from separate piles are deposited by grippers 5 on an inclined feed table 3, the table being slotted longitudinally. An endless belt 6 is mounted beneath the table 3 and carries pusher members 9 which project through the slot in the table for engagement with the rear edges of the sheets deposited thereon. If the belt 6 is driven in a direction to make the members 9 move from right to left along the slot collated book blocks, assembled from the stations 2, are delivered into a receiver 10, the blocks being removed from the lefthand end of the table slot by a reciprocating member 12 and being stacked on edge in the receiver 10 by an oscillating rake 11. If the belt 6 is driven in the opposite direction in synchronism with the drive of a further machine 17, e.g. an automatic gluing and binding machine, the collated book blocks are removed from the right-hand end of the table slot by pusher members 16 carried by a conveyer chain 15. Each block is then moved into a vertical position by means of guide plates 13, 14 and fed into the machine 17. The collating machine may be used selectively for operation in either of the ways described, a separate drive being provided for the belt 6 when the receiver 10 is in use and the belt being driven by the drive means of the machine 17 when the latter is being fed.
