931,838. Folding fabrics. TEXTILMASCHINENBAU GERA VEB. May 19, 1961, No. 18460/61. Class 42 (2). A machine for transversely folding a web of fabric comprises a reciprocating folding head 1 driven by a crank 12, the crank 12 being driven with a non-uniform rotary motion. The head 1 is displaceable along a bar 2 pivoted at 3 and is connected at 4 to an endless belt or chain 5 running about pulleys 6, 7. The belt 5 is continuously reciprocated by the crank 12 mounted on a gear 21 and reciprocating a rod 13 having a rack 14 thereon which engages a gear 15 on the shaft 22 of the pulley 7. A pulley 23 is driven uniformly by a motor 19 and drives a gear 20 meshing with the gear 21 non-uniformly through a drag-link mechanism comprising crank pins 16, 17 and a connecting-rod 18, the gear 21 being twice as large as the gear 20. The drag-link mechanism may be replaced by two elliptical toothed wheels or two eccentrically mounted toothed wheels which mesh with each other.
