Abstract

931,815. Bearings. ENGINEERING PRODUCTIONS (CLEVEDON) Ltd. Oct. 25, 1961 [Nov. 14, 1960], No. 39035/60. Class 12 (1). [Also in Group XXV] A bearing assembly has a shaft 1 mounted in a housing 2 having at least two non-metallic bushes thereon and the engaging surfaces of the shaft and bush have complementary mating indentations and projections to take end thrusts. The indentations and projections may be coarse threads 6 as on the bush 4, or ribs and grooves 7, 7a, as on the bush 4a. In an embodiment, the housing 2 has an internal shoulder 2a intermediate bushes 3 and 4 or 4a, the former being plain. The bush 3 is retained by a plate 10 and the bush 4, or 4a, by a steel ring 11. A sealing washer 9, of synthetic plastics material, is positioned between the housing 2 and a lever member 8 shrunk &c. on the shaft 1. A mounting bracket 5 is provided. The bushes may be made of thermoplastic material such as nylon &c. of iso-cyanate condensation products, of a woven material incorporating P.T.F.E. &c. and of thermo-setting or thermoplastic synthetic material moulded around an interlaced P.T.F.E. fibre bearing surface &c.
