931,792. Finishing yarns. DEERING MILLIKEN RESEARCH CORPORATION. Sept. 2, 1959 [June 16, 1958], No. 19207/58. Drawings to Specification. Class 120 (3). Modified stretch-bulk/properties are imparted to thermoplastic multifilament yarn by bring- ing the yarn to a state of latent and/or actual stress, e.g. by (false-) twist crimping, edgecrimping, passage between (heated) corrugated rollers, knitting into a fabric and then unravelling, with intermediate heat-setting and/or cooling and/or storing under tension, and then, continuously or after a time interval, overfeeding the yarn into a heated zone. While the yarn is in such zone, non-rectilinear forms e.g. undulations, loops, coils, develop in the filaments. On leaving the zone, the yarn is passed through positive advancing apparatus prior to at least one further operation, e.g. plying or winding, on the yarn. Heating, up to a temperature close to the sticking temperature of the yarn may be effected by a heated stationary surface over and in contact with which the yarn passes, passage of yarn through, or subjection to a stream of, hot fluid, or the yarn may be subjected to radiant heat.
