A liquid sample for introduction into a gas chromatography column is produced by taking a sample of the liquid by means of a measuring valve, dipper or syringe, atomizing the sample in a closed chamber by means of a measured amount of the carrier gas or any other gas at a temperature which ensures complete evaporation, forcing part of the evaporated sample into a gas sampling valve by moving a wall, such as a piston, of the chamber and introducing the gas sample into a column, mixed with the carrier gas. The Specification also refers to a method, in which an evaporated liquid sample is divided into two streams, one of which, forming the final sample, is a small proportion of the other.
