Abstract

931,201. Radiating burners. RADIATION Ltd. Jan. 31,1962 [Jan. 17,1961], No. 1915/61. Class 75 (1). A radiating burner comprises an apertured plate i disposed above a refractory gauze diaphragm h and adapted to prevent the passage of gas through the centre portion of the diaphragm. The centre portion of the plate i is solid and stands proud to contact the diaphragm h or a flange around the periphery of the centre portion contacts the diaphragm or the bulk of the plate is spaced from the diaphragm and a blanking plate is fitted to the outer surface of the diaphragm. The apertures in the plate i comprise downwardly horned holes which contact the diaphragm and the surrounding area of diaphragm may be blanked off, but further unhorned holes may be provided and then sometimes the horning is completely dispensed with. The diaphragm h may consist of one or more gauze layers. A gas distribution chamber b above the plate i is supplied with fuel from a mixer tube c and is defined by a dished body a edged with a flange d which fits tightly inside a wider skirt of a bowed gauze frame f. The diaphragm h is clamped between the flange d and the frame f and is secured by screws g. The outer edge k of the plate i coincides with a narrower skirt of the frame f and the plate i is pressed down on to the diaphragm h by means of screws j to effect tensioning and edge sealing of the diaphragm.
