Abstract
931,161. Belt gearing. J. M. DODWELL. Dec. 30, 1959, No. 44274/59. Class 80 (1). A driving belt for V-pulleys comprises an endless one-piece loop of one or more flexible bands of thin sheet metal, the lateral edges of the belt being tapered and each of the one or more bands being of substantially constant width throughout its length. In cross-section the belt may be flat, arcuate, or may comprise an angular ridge, Fig. 4. Preferably the belt is precurved by training it around a large pulley 6 and a smaller pulley 7, Fig. 7, the larger pulley being subjected to a force applied by a spring 8 tending to separate the pulleys. In the manufacture of a laminated belt, a plurality of endless bands 1<SP>1</SP> of uniform width are assembled as shown in Fig. 9 and the sides are then ground to the desired angle of taper. To facilitate shipment or storage, the belt may be temporarily wound with tape.
