Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the formula Ph.C(R)=N.NH.C(NH2)=NH (wherein Ph is a phenyl group substituted in the meta-or para-position by an alkanoylamino group or nitro group and R is an alkyl group) and salts thereof; and their preparation from guanylhydrazine or a salt thereof and the appropriate ketone. Examples are given and an extensive list of salt-forming organic and inorganic acids is provided. The guanylhydrazones of the invention, which are stated to have anti-inflammatory properties, may be formulated as pharmaceutical compositions. These may take the form of tablets, dragees, ointments, creams, solutions, suspensions or emulsions. They may contain preserving, stabilizing, wetting or emulsifying agents, salts for regulating osmotic pressure, buffers or other therapeutically valuable substances. An example describes a tablet containing m-nitroproposphenone guanylhydrazone hydrochloride.
