[Also in Group XX] A plotting device comprises a cathode-ray tube or other screen 10 on a mobile craft displaying plan-position radar information in combination with a transparent plotting member 25 carried on a parallel motion linkage 21 ... 24 for movement without rotation over the surface of the display screen, pivot means being provided enabling the plotting member to be swung away from the display screen. The invention is concerned with the assessment of risk of collision with other ships. Tubular links 21 are carried by rod 20 by means of a tubular spacer 26 forming a pivot rotatable on, and slidable along, the rod; tubular pivot 22 serves as a spacer for links 21 and carries links 23 which are joined by member 24. The linkage prevents rotation of the plotting member. Range and bearing graticules may be engraved on the plotting member. The display may be " ship's-head-upward " or " northupward." In the arrangement illustrated in Fig. 5 one corner of plotting member 25 carries a pivot 40 for an arm 41 having a slot 42 through which there extends a fixed pivot 43 with a locking nut 44; arm 41 is set in the direction of the ship's heading with pivot 43 positioned in slot 42 such that the interpivotal distance corresponds to a desired radius of arcuate movement of the plotting member (see also Figs. 2-4, not shown). A bearing scale 46, which is a compass rose when the display is " north-upward," is provided on the plotting member. In a further embodiment a second arm is pivoted about a first arm itself pivoted on a pin in the plotting member, Fig. 6 (not shown). The use of the embodiments is detailed.
