1,076,262. Aircraft control instruments. H. C. GALLAHER and J. J. GALLAHER. Sept. 17, 1965, No. 39773/65. Heading B7W. An instrument for assisting the roll control of an aeroplane comprises a ring 26 with bank angle markings, fixed to the frame of a gyroscope providing an artificial horizon 17, and a transparent circular plate 31 carrying a line 38. The plate 31 is rotated by a cable 41 relative to the instrument casing by the aileron control in the same sense as the ailerons rotate the aircraft. Thus, to achieve a desired angle of bank, the aileron controls are moved to tilt the line 38 to the corresponding bank angle on the ring 26, and as the instrument rotates (with the aircraft) and the ring remains upright, the aileron control is returned towards neutral to hold the line 38 stationary relative to the ring 26.
