Abstract

793,795. Electric correspondence control systems. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. March 5, 1956 [March 4, 1955], No. 6525/55. Class 40 (1). The axis of thrust of an aircraft rocket motor is automatically adjusted to prevent turning of the craft about the centre of gravity. The direction of jet thrust is rotated about a mean position, continuously, under control of a. servo system at a point behind the craft centre of gravity. In the mean position the jet thrust acts through the centre of gravity of the craft. As shown, Fig. 4, the required angle of inclination, Br, of the jet motor relative to a datum, is given by the function generator 50 and is compared at 52 with the value of the angle A, measured by the gyroscope 51, between the vehicle central axis and the datum. The comparison signal is applied to the motor control system 53 to adjust the jet thrust angle. The electrohydraulic servo unit 58 has a resistancecondenser feedback unit 59. The component 55 represents the effect of the rocket thrust and craft angular acceleration upon the input to the measuring gyroscope 51.
