Abstract

912,671. Guided missiles. PYE Ltd. June 6, 1961 [June 8, 1960], No. 20116/60. Classes 9 (1) and 9 (2). [Also in Group XXXIII] A guided missile has guiding means such as a jet deflector 1a which is rotatable about the longitudinal axis of the missile and is rollstabilized independently of the roll of the missile by a gyroscope 6 via a servo-mechanism 13. The jet deflector is mounted on a turntable 1 controlled by an electric motor 3 geared to a toothed ring 5. A circular resistance 7 is fixed to the missile body and a reference potential is fed via slip rings 8 to mutually insulated brushes 9 disposed 180 degrees apart, the brushes being linked to the gyro 6 so that they remain stationary when the missile rolls. Connections are taken from points around resistance 7 to corresponding points of a similar resistance 10. Mutually insulated brushes 11, mounted to rotate with the turn-table, are connected via slip rings 12 to the servomechanism 13, the output of which is fed via slip rings 14 to motor 3. When brushes 11 are at right angles to brushes 9 there is no resultant voltage, but with any roll of the missile resistance 7 moves relative to the brushes 9 and an error voltage is fed to the servo-mechanism 13, thereby operating motor 3 to maintain the jet deflector 1a in its stabilized position. A second embodiment describes fins mounted on a rotatable tail portion under control of an electric motor geared to a toothed ring mounted on the inside surface of the missile body. The control system is the same as in the first embodiment.
