Abstract
1353285 Inertial navigation systems; SINGER CO 17 Aug 1972 38459/72 Heading G1C and G1F An inertial navigation system having a gyrostabilized platform 11 is provided with a stellar sensing device 21 which is supported on the platform 11 by a gimbal arrangement 49, 51, the gimbal arrangement being arranged to support a gyroscope 25 which is fixed to the stellar sensing device and has its spin axis arranged parallel to the line of sight of the stellar sensing device. The platform 11 which supports gyros 13 and accelerometers 17 is attached to a gimbal member 31 which is pivotally connected by way of further gimbal members 33, 37 to the frame 16 of the vessel on which the apparatus is mounted, the gimbals 31, 33, 37 being positionally controlled by torques 35, 39, 41 under the control of the gyro 13. Both the stellar sensing device 21 and the gyroscope 25 are mounted for rotation about two perpendicular axes by an elevation gimbal 49 and an azimuth gimbal 51, the gimbals 49, 51 being rotatable by torques 57, 53 and the amount of rotation being signalled by encoders 55, 59.
