Abstract

930,724. Magnetic holding devices. MAGNA DRIVER CORPORATION. June 7, 1961, No. 20534/61. Class 35. [Also in Group XXII] A magnetic holding device comprises a shell having a magnetic part 13 and a non-magnetic part 10 secured together and housing a magnet 15, at least part of the bore of part 13 being of non-circular cross-section for driving a socket wrench 21, screwdriver &c. The copper, brass, austenitic stainless-steel &c. part 10 is secured, as by welding, to the steel part 13 which may have a bore of hexagonal cross-section for driving the non-magnetic, hexagonal shank 18 of the socket 21, which is of hardenable magnetic material. A rod 19 of magnetic material passing through the shank 18 holds a nut or screw 26 magnetically in the socket 21. The socket 21, shank 18 and rod 19 may be replaced by a screwdriver, Fig. 5 (not shown), holding the screw by magnetic attraction. The rod 19 or the screwdriver may be spaced slightly from the magnet end.
