Abstract
930,692. Valves. KEITH BLACKMAN Ltd., and E. E. TAVENER. May 2, 1962 [Feb. 3, 1961], No. 4146/61. Class 135. A gas-shut-off valve in which flow between an inlet 11, Fig. 1, and an outlet 12 is controlled by a diaphragm 18 loaded by a weight 19 or a spring. This loading is always augmented by a spring 24 between the outer ends of two arms 21 pivoted on the diaphragm cover, which arms are connected by a toggle comprising two links 22 each pivoted on a separate one of the arms 21 and joined to a plunger 23 abutting the weight 19. A leak 15 may permanently interconnect the inlet and outlet; the leak may be replaced by a tube 13 embodying a manual valve 14. In a modification, one arm only is pivoted, which arm 21, Fig. 4, is rotatably connected to another link 29 attached to the plunger, the joint between these links incorporating a roller 27 which acts as a follower for a cam 26 supported by the fixed arm 21. The cam may be replaced by links as in Fig. 1.
