In a method of delustring a monofilament of synthetic material of high molecular weight e.g. a polyamide, wherein the monofilament is guided obliquely over a rotating roughening body the peripheral speed of which differs from the speed of drawing-off of the filament and is adjustable, as described in the parent Specification, the monofilament is sprinkled with water or steam while it is in contact with the body. The treatment is stated to reduce friction heating and prevent blockage of the pores of the body by abraded dust, so that the delustring effect is uniform throughout the length of the filament.
