Abstract
930,022. Strip-perforating; type-justifying. SIEMENS & HALSKE A.G. May 8, 1961 [May 9, 1960], No. 16628/61. Class 100 (3). A control device for a matrix width indicator for use in a machine which perforates a strip for controlling a type-casting machine includes a movable scanning member 10 having a scanning edge disposed at an angle to the direction of motion of the scanning device and a plurality of stop-members 4 each movable by means of an electromagnet 5 into the path of the scanning edge, the stop-members being arranged in rows spaced in the direction of motion of the scanning device and the stop members in each row being arranged in a line which is disposed at an angle to the direction of motion of the scanning device different from the angle between the scanning edge and the direction of motion. The electromagnets 5 are mounted in a block 1 of easily magnetizable material and the stop-members 4 are non-magnetic rods slidable in bores in the block 1 and secured to the armatures 2 of the electromagnets. When pressure is applied to a strip-perforating key (not shown) a switch 8 in the circuit of one of the electromagnets is closed so that the magnet is energized and the corresponding stop member 4 is protruded from the face 1a of the block 1. The scanning member 10 is then moved downwards from the position shown until its leading edge abuts against the protruded stop member which prevents the member 10 from moving further downwards. The amount of movement of the member 10 is converted to a proportionally reduced movement of the indicator of a device for indicating the sum of the matrix widths. The member 10 then returns to its starting position and the stop member 4 is retracted by a spring 9.
