Abstract
1,053,990. Electromagnetic relays. CHAUVIN ARNOUX ET CIE. Nov. 10, 1964 [Nov. 15, 1963], No. 45761/64. Heading H2B. A relay having a plunger-type armature 23 and a fixed core 21 has its core of material having a retentivity such that a magnetizing impulse in winding 11 produces a residual magnetism which exerts sufficient attraction to return the armature to its operated position after it has been mechanically displaced to its rest position, but after a partial-demagnetizing impulse the residual magnetism is too weak to hold the armature operated even if mechanically moved to its operated (minimum air gap) position. The armature core 23 has a collar 24 on which are pivoted four levers 31 (only two being visible in Fig. 3) each carrying a moving contact 3 and coupled to a blade spring 42 such that a small movement of armature 23 causes the contacts 3 to change-over from respective fixed contacts 6 to contacts 5. The fixed core 21 is adjusted in collar 18 and secured by adhesive 22. The residual magnetism may be produced in either core 21 or 23. The winding 11 may be in two parts for magnetizing and demagnetizing impulses from a D.C. supply (Fig. 8, not shown) or a single winding may be switched between opposed rectifiers from an A.C. source. In the latter case the rectifiers and an associated resistor may be encapsulated and mounted on the collar 18 (Fig. 2, not shown).
