Abstract

929,698. Pneumatic despatch apparatus. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Dec. 1, 1961 [Dec. 5, 1960], No. 43078/61. Class 78 (1). A pressure sealing flap valve unit 8 permitting the passage of a despatch carrier in a pneumatic tube despatch system is housed in a container 1 having an open side 6 for easy insertion and removal of the assembled unit 8. The open side 6 is closed by a cover-plate 7. The unit 8 comprises a tubular passage 9 closed by flexible sealing flaps 10a, 10b pivoted at 13 and yieldingly loaded by springs 12. On assembly, the unit 8 is held in position by screws (not shown) inserted through holes 14 in the container to engage threaded holes 15 in the unit 8 and arranged to bring a flange 11 on the unit 8 into sealing engagement with a pipe collar 2 on the container 1. Flexible stops 16 are provided to dampen the opening movement of the flaps 10a, 10b.
