Abstract
A composition suitable for use in making a heat and oil resistant rubbery seal or coating adherent to a metal surface, comprises a liquid polysulphide polymer and, as adhesive agent, 0,05-10%, based on the weight of the polymer, of a dimethylol phenol or a salt thereof. In the ten examples, two-part compositions are prepared in which Part A comprises a liquid polysulphide rubber, dimethylol-p-cresol or dimethylol-o-cresol and optionally activated calcium carbonate, titanium dioxide, carbon black, stearic acid, oleic acid and toluol and Part B comprises lead dioxide as curing agent and optionally dibutyl phthalate, sextol phthalate and stearic acid. (In Example 8 the dimethylol-p-cresol is in Part B). In Example 1, on mixing Parts A and B and spreading on a sheet of aluminium alloy previously de-greased by means of trichlorethylene, a firmly adherent coating results which cures in about an hour. Other substrates mentioned are glass, teak and beechwood, and the compositions may be applied by brush, spatula or extrusion gun.ALSO:A composition suitable for use in making a heat and oil resistant rubbery seal or coating adherent to a metal surface, comprises a liquid polysulphide polymer and, as adhesive agent, 0,05-10%, based on the weight of the polymer, of a dimethylol phenol or a salt thereof.
