Abstract
Catalysts which combine oxidation and hydration functions are manufactured by forming a support from an agglomerate of spherically shaped activated and dehydrated alumina immune to disintegration in the presence of water vapour or liquid, saturating the support with an aqueous solution of nitrates of a metal oxidation catalyst and copper as hydration catalyst, and heating the saturated support at 400 DEG - 500 DEG C. The preferred support is eta-alumina; the oxidation metal catalysts are selected from Ag, Mn, V, W and Zn. A catalyst containing Cu, Zn and Ag is exemplified.
