Abstract

In a process for purifying naphthoquinone obtained by gas phase catalytic oxidation of naphthalene, the improvement which comprises contacting a solution of the naphthoquinone dissolved in a solvent capable of dissolving naphthoquinone and not miscible with water, with an aqueous sodium bicarbonate solution capable of maintaining pH not lower than 7 between ordinary temperature and a temperature of 90`C to thereby extract into the aqueous solution impurities contained in the naphthoquinone.
