928,541. Sack &c. holders; appliances for collecting refuse. HYDRAULIC ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Nov. 30, 1961 [Jan. 24, 1961], No. 2721/61. Class 58. A holder for a sack &c. receiving refuse, constituting an appliance for collecting refuse, comprises a base 1 having secured to it a tubular upright column 2, a ring 4 fixed to two arms of a bracket 3 secured to the top of the column, a spindle 5 rotatably mounted in the bracket, two lugs 7 pivoting on the ends of the spindle, having secured to them a ring 8, large enough to fit over and around the ring 4 to clamp the mouth of a sack, &c. thereto, a lid 9 provided with two lugs 10, which pass through slots in the downturned rim of the lid to form a hinge portion 11 surrounding the spindle between the arms of the bracket 3, and a lug 12 on the hinge portion pivotally connected by a rod 13, passing through the column, to one end of a lever 14 pivoted to a bracket 15 in the base. The lever carries, at its other end, a foot pedal or rail 16 for raising the lid. A spring may be mounted on the rod 13 to urge the lid into its closed position.
