Abstract

419,230. Sanitary and like bins. SMITH & SONS (STOKE NEWINGTON), Ltd., and SMITH, W., Anvil House, Matthias Road, Stoke Newington, London. Aug. 1, 1933, No. 21625. [Class 26.] A device for converting a liftoff dustbin &c. cover into a hinged foot-operated cover, comprises a support for engaging the edge of the cover and constituting a hinge by which the cover can be raised by pivoting about said edge, and actuating-means including a foot-pedal which when depressed raises the cover. The support may be provided with a recess or recesses to take the edge of the cover and may comprise a double right-angled bracket or brackets. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the support 12 comprises two projecting arms each of which is recessed to receive the cover and the actuating- means comprise an open, readily-detachable, connection 8 between a member 7 secured to the cover and a member 21 connected to a rotatable rod 1 bent laterally to form a pedal 2 and a crank 3. The rod may pass through bearing-holes provided in the dustbin or be housed in a member 9 drilled for securing to the underside of the dust-bin and a guide 19 is provided. In another form, Fig. 3, the rods 1, 4 are adjustable in length, the rod 1 being constituted by bent rods 2 and 3 fitting telescopically in a member 28, whilst the rod 4 is constituted by telescopic members 24 and 25. In another form, Fig. 4, a stand 39 is provided to support the bottom of the receptacle and carries an upright 40 carrying the support 42. In this form also the members 40, 4 may be telescopic.
