Abstract

928,405. Inspecting fabrics. G. DURRANT & SONS Ltd. Feb. 13, 1962 [Nov. 20, 1960], No. 35911/60. Class 42 (2). Apparatus for inspecting tubular knitted fabric comprises an internally illuminable transparent casing 22 over which the tubular fabric 11 is progressively drawn in stretched condition and a mirror 13 disposed behind the casing with respect to the position of the viewer to enable the viewer to examine both faces of the fabric. The fabric 11 from a roll carried by an arbor 10 passes around a roller 12, behind the plane mirror 13 over rollers 15, around the casing 22 and between draw rollers 16, 17. The roller 16 is driven by a reversible motor drive 18 actuated by a foot switch 30 and the roller 17 is spring-urged into contact therewith, gaps 19 being provided to clear columns 20 mounted on a platform 21 and carrying the easing 22. The casing 22, preferably made of polymethyl methacrylate, is parallel to the mirror 13 and comprises two sections 24, Fig. 2, telescopically engaged with a section 25 removably mounted on the columns 20. The sections 24 carry fluorescent tubes 23 slidably supported in lugs 28. The casing may be exchanged for different width fabrics. To check dyeing faults the casing is not illuminated. After passing over the casing 22 the fabric is collected in crumpled condition on the platform 21. By reversing the drive 18 and connecting it to the arbor 10 the fabric may be rewound thereon. Alternatively, the fabric may be fed from lapped form and restored to this form after inspection by a plaiting mechanism 31. Preferably a twospeed motor is provided to permit the re-rolling or plaiting to be effected at a higher speed.
