Abstract

928,218. Refrigerators. LAWS STORES Ltd., and D. R. NOBLE. Nov. 8, 1960 [Oct. 2, 1959], No. 33573/59. Class 29. A storage and display cabinet of self-levelling type, comprises a casing 10 and a base 12 and is provided with a platform 20 mounted resiliently in a horizontal plane, on four arms 22 contained within slotted hollow corner pillars 24, which house slide guides (not shown) and compression springs 28, permitting vertical sliding movement as the goods are placed upon or removed from it. The cabinet may comprise a number of compartments separated from each other by partitions. In another embodiment the rear compression springs may be replaced by tensionsprings and in addition the platform may be provided with guide wheels engaging guide grooves in the cabinet wall to retain the platform in a horizontal position. In a further embodiment a central compression spring may be provided in addition to the other four springs. In a still further embodiment only two rear tension springs are used and the platform is stabilized by guide members mounted on rollers engaging vertical channel guides. Provision is made for the adjustment of the tension or compression of the springs. The display cabinet may be provided with refrigeration means and the platform is then provided with air vents, draining grooves and resilient scrapers of rubber for the removal of frost from the cabinet walls. When the platform is empty the refrigeration unit may be switched off by a microswitch mounted in the top of one pillar and which may also actuate audible and visible signals. The platform level may be ascertained through a vertical window provided on the front of the cabinet. To prevent oscillation of the platform hydraulic or pneumatic dampers may be provided.
