Abstract

927,750. Suction nozzles. UNION TANK CAR CO. March 29, 1962 [April 21, 1961], No. 12052/62. Class 8(1). In a suction nozzle a base member 10 with roller means 78, 60 adjacent to the front and rear edges supports between and parallel to the rollers, spaced walls 12, 14 forming an elongated suction opening 15 with narrow lips 16, 18 terminating substantially in the lower tangent plane of the rollers. A third parallel wall 30, forms a recess with the rear wall 14 to house a retractable brush 34 whose bristles 36 extend below the lower tangent plane of the rollers. For easy movement over a carpet there is a gliding surface 76 behind the brush substantially in the plane of the lips 16, 18, and there are tyres 61, 81 on the ends of the rollers 60, 78 which penetrate a soft floor covering but prevent the nozzle and gliding surface scratching a hard surface. The rear roller 78 has an adjustable eccentric mounting (not shown) so that the penetration of the nozzle into the floor covering may be varied.
