Abstract
927,646. Inspection devices; generating combustion products under pressure. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO. Ltd. July 10, 1961 [Oct. 13, 1960], No. 35170/60. Classes 51 (1) and 51 (2). An inspection device comprises a window over a port in a wall of a furnace or other object, and means for covering the inside surface of said window with a thin continuous flowing sheet of transparent liquid. As shown, the window is formed from two sheets of glass of which the inner sheet 14 may be toughened, spaced from the furnace wall 2 by an insulating spacer 3, e.g. of asbestos brick, an annular water-cooled brass spacing ring 5, and water supply and drain pipes for covering the inside of the window, consisting of an inlet pipe 8 flaring out at about 12 degrees at 10 into a flat rectangular feed pipe 9, from which water passes behind a guide plate 13 and over the pane 14 into a drain pipe 16. This water may be preheated by being passed through the window interspace 18 and/or the cooling ring 7. The invention is stated to be applicable to rocket engines.
