Abstract

927,322. Control of motors; controllers; snap-action switches. ELECTROLUX A.B. Dec. 18, 1959 [Dec. 23, 1958], No. 43041/59. Classes 38 (3) and 38 (5). The agitator of a washing-machine is driven by a universal motor of the reversible series type which is coupled through worm 28 with wormwheel 29 carrying pin 30 adapted to drive arms 32, 33. This displaces rod 37 so that frame 71 moves to the right and spring 83 is tensioned since frame 70 is locked by bar 72. After the frame 71 has moved so far to the right that its wall 81 engages projection 77 on locking-bar 73, the wall 81 reaches projection 78 on locking- bar 72 to release the frame 70. The spring 83 then drives the frame 70 and operating member 86 towards the right, this movement being retarded by a piston working in cylinder 90 having a restricted air-passage 93. During movement of the member 86 to the right, it first disengages arm 48 to open switch 51 and interrupt the motor circuit. The energy stored in the spring 83 continues to displace the member 86 until it engages arm 49 to close switch 52. The motor is then started in the reverse direction. The pin 30 moves away from the arm 32, the member 86 remaining stationary until the pin re-engages the other side of the arm. Subsequent operation is similar to that described, the motor being continuously reversed, with periods of stand-still between reversals.
