Abstract

927,183. Filing papers; index tabs. O. A. BECKER. March 1, 1961, No. 7539/61. Classes 16 and 146 (1). A lateral filing device for folders or the like resting on shelves, comprises double-walled partitions having at least one pair of support wires lying substantially wholly within the double-walled partition and connected together by resilient means such as rubber loops, so that the free ends of the support wires are urged into engagement with guide rails extending longitudinally on the shelves. The shelves are bent over along their edges to form guide rails 10 receiving the hooked ends 9 of the support rails 4, 5. The latter are located in position by rivets 8 connecting the walls 3 of the partition and connected by a rubber loop 6. In other embodiments, Figs. 1 to 7 (not shown), two, three or four support wires are provided between the walls of a partition, being interconnected or connected to the partition, by rubber loops, and their free ends shaped to engage the guide rails. Channel-shaped members may be attached to the edges of the shelves to form said guide rails. The front edges 41 of the walls 3 of a partition are extended beyond the front edges of the shelves to provide a support for indexing means which is capable of flexing about a hinge line 41a. Normally, the front edges 41 are maintained in the plane of the partition, by a leaf spring attached to one wall 3 and extending across the hinged line. Indexing means.-The front edges 41 of the walls are apertured at 43 and stapled together to form pockets adapted to receive index strips relating to corresponding index tabs 51 on the folders. Alternatively, the front edges 41 of the partitions are joined together by a series of rivets, whereby index tabs having corresponding slots'and inserted between the walls 3, are fixed to the partitions. In another embodiment, a label carrier 80 having slots 81 is adapted to be placed on the rivets in a sloping or vertical position. The slots 81 may be replaced by four apertures and the rivets replaced by two press stud fasteners, Fig. 19 (not shown). A numbered index strip 87 is placed in the label carrier 80 and a coloured transparent slide 91 arranged along its length to indicate one of the numbers. In addition, a coloured signal 88 engages slots 90 in the index strip e.g. to indicate the month. In other embodiments, the projecting front edges 41 are provided with horizontally and vertically extending series of slots to receive transparent label holders on one or both faces of the partition, said label holders being provided with correspondingly positioned lugs, or one wall of the partition is provided with a vertically extending guide strip and a transparent label holder having inturned edges engaged over the guide strip and the front edge of said wall. Each label holder receives an index sheet divided into strips by spaced parallel lines of perforations.
