Abstract

926,382. Valves. J. MERCIER. May 29, 1959 [June 3, 1958], No. 18408/59. Classes 69 (2) and 135. A valve for use with an hydraulic accumulator 10 of the kind having a flexible pressurized bag or partition 11, and permitting the free flow of liquid into the accumulator whilst preventing the extrusion of the flexible partition into the outlet when the accumulator is exhausted, comprises a body 16, formed with a seat 24 surrounding the inlet-out passage or passages 17, a flexible resilient plate 21 secured at one part against the seat and having a natural shape when unflexed conforming to the seat, and spring means 25 acting between the body and a region of the plate spaced from both its secured part and its periphery, the resilience of the flexible plate being such in relation to that of the spring 25 that as the partition 11 moves the plate 21 toward the seat, the periphery of 23 the plate, which is unsupported by the spring 25, yields to engage the seat and prevent the partition entering the passage or passages 17. In a modification, the single spring is replaced by a ring of coil springs and the plate 21 inwardly of the passages 17 is perforated. In another embodiment, Fig. 6, the plate 23<SP>1</SP> is held normally open by a pair of Belleville spring washers 45, 46; these may provide an increasing force on the plate up to a predetermined deformation whereafter they provide a decreasing force so that the periphery of the plate will rapidly seat toward the end of its closing movement. The passages 17<SP>1</SP> are controlled both by the plate 23<SP>1</SP> and by a resilient disc 49 which partly blocks the passages and serves as a flow restrictor when liquid is drawn from the accumulator. The disc 49 in another modification is replaced by a disc adapted wholly to close a second ring of passages on a diameter within the ring of passages 17<SP>1</SP>. In a further embodiment, the flexible resilient plate 21 is replaced by a non-circular plate secured at one end on the head of a poppet-type filling valve and closing on to a passage through this filling valve which passage is also controlled by a manually-operated outlet valve.
