Abstract
925,892. Doffing apparatus. BAHNSON CO. Jan. 24, 1962, No. 2614/62. Class 120 (2). Apparatus for doffing bobbins, especially from a row of upright spindles on a spinning frame, comprises a lifter arm which can be brought into engagement with a bobbin and means for developing an upthrust actuable to raise the arm, and means for restraining the upthrust means until a predetermined upthrust is develped. As shown, a carriage 14 is arranged to run on rails along a bank of spindles and doff each spindle in turn by a lifter arm 49. This arm is pivoted at 48 to a bell-crank 42 pivoted at 43 and connected at 44 to the armature of a solenoid 46. The connection at 48 includes a helical torsion spring so that the arm 49 is kept against a roller 51 of a bell-crank 29. One arm 29b of this has a notch 31 engaged by a roller 32 on an arm 34 and carrying at the other side of a pivot 33 a yoke 36 with a rod 37 between its arms, the other arm 29a is connected to a compression-spring 27 the lower part of which encircles the upper part of a rod 18 which carries a forked plate 26 engaging the rod 37. Rod 18 is constrained to move vertically in guides 17-is connected at 19 to one arm of a pivoted lever 20 of which the other arm is connected at 22 to a solenoid 24. As the carriage is moved into position, the arm 49 is in the retracted position shown to avoid the endmember of the frame. Solenoid 46 is now energized to rotate bell-crank 42 against the pull of a spring 47 to project arm 49 forwardly. Solenoid 24 is now energized and lever 20 is rotated against the pull of a spring 25 to raise rod 18 and compress spring 27, the bell-crank 29 being unable to move on account of the catch 31, 32. As rod 18 continues to rise plate 26 finally lifts the upper arm of yoke 36 to rotate arm 33 against the force of spring 39 and release the catch, whereupon the compressed spring 27 is suddenly released to force upwardly arms 29a and 49 and impart a hammer-blow to a butt 13b of a bobbin 13, or to the base of the winding, in which case the end of arm 49 is concave and provided with a nylon tip. In case the bobbin is not separated by the blow of the arm 49, it is arranged that the spring is released before the top of rod 18 engages the arm 29a so that the upward movement of the rod releases the bobbin, after which the spring can operate to actuate the lifter arm. The impact force may be applied directly to the lifter arm, by coupling the latter to a solenoid, the restraining means being a permanent magnet, the force of which is eventually overcome by the force built up by energization of the solenoid coil.
