Abstract

925,679. Glasshouses; glazing; ventilator windows; window-operating mechanisms. CAMBRIDGE GLASSHOUSE CO. Ltd. May 22, 1959 [Sept. 16, 1958], No. 29681/58. Classes 20 (1) and 20 (3). A glasshouse framework comprises structural members of corrosion-resistant metal, e.g. aluminium, including a ventilator comprising a hinge 10 and a sill 11 connected by glazing bars 7 of section shown in Fig. 9, releasably secured by nuts and bolts to the sill 11 and hinge member 10. The sill 11 rests in the closed position of the ventilator against a shut rail 18, Fig. 4, having a P.V.C. seal head covering 21. The rail 18, Fig. 18, is slid on to two adjacent glazing bars 7 with the flanges 15 of the bars engaged in angular slots 23 of the rail 18, the rail resting on the upturned flanges 13 of the glazing bars. The hinge member 10 comprises a cylindrical portion 33 which slides into a longitudinal groove of an eaves gutter 2, Fig. 4, to form a side ventilator or a similar groove in the roof ridge member 1, Fig. 3, to form a roof ventilator. These ventilators which may extend from one end of the glass house to the other may be operated by rack and pinion mechanism or by a rotatable shaft having thereon a plurality of arms coupled to the ventilator or to individual panels of the ventilator. The panes of glass are held against sealing strips carried in the grooves 17 of the glazing bars 7 by means of clips forming the matter of Specification 925,680.
