Abstract

925,619. Motor driving arrangements. ALLISCHALMERS MANUFACTURING CO. May 23, 1961 [May 27, 1960], No. 18645/61. Class 35. [Also in Group XXIV] In a driving arrangement for coupling two synchronous motors to a load, the angular position of the rotor of at least one of the motors relative to its driving pinion is adjustable to enable wear in gear train to be accommodated so as to balance the load on each motor. Fig. 1 shows a tumbling mill 10 supported on trunnion bearings and driven by two synchronous motors 50, 50a via a flexible coupling 30 and two gear trains. The rotor of each motor is supported only on bearings 45, 45a, independent of the stator. At least one of the rotors 51 (Fig. 2) is provided with a hub comprising a part 53, welded to the shaft 44 and a supporting part 53a, rotatable with respect to shaft 44. The angular position of rotor 51 relative to shaft 44 is adjustable by means of nuts 63, 64 governing the position of an eye-bolt 61 on a clevis 55. By this adjustment, unequal wear in the two gear trains may be accommodated so as to balance the effective load on the motors as determined by a pair of watt-hour meters or an oscilloscope.
