925,482. Engine stop-gear. D. NAPIER & SON Ltd. Aug. 4, 1961 [Aug. 12, 1960], No. 28061/60. Class 122 (4). [Also in Group XXIX] A fuel dump valve 6 leading from a conduit 2 connecting a fuel pump 1 and metering system 3, e.g. as described in Specification 925,482, with a gas turbine or other, e.g. petrol or Diesel, engine is opened to stop the supply of fuel to the engine on the occurrence of rotational acceleration greater than a predetermined amount by a servopiston 8 under the control of a pilot valve constituted by an engine-driven shaft 20 carrying a casing 22 by which is driven, through springs 26, a flywheel 23 rotatable on the shaft and having passages 28 which vent the left-hand side of the servo-piston when they come into register with holes 27 in the shaft 20. In the case of a gas turbine, a restriction 12 by which the left-hand side of the servo-piston is fed is so sized that the dump valve will not reclose, on closure of the pilot valve after cessation of an excessive acceleration, before the burner flame has become extinguished. The dump valve has a manual control 7.
