The arms 1 of a gallows for handling trawls extend at their lower ends through the deck of a ship for connection to the power devices for swinging them about their luffing pivot 1b In the form shown, the arms 1 are joined at their upper ends and are luffed by hydraulic rams 4 through a range limited by stops 5. The hoisting lines 6 are carried by pulleys 5, and separate sheaves 8 mounted to swivel in frames 9 are provided for the trawl warps above guides 10.
