925,023. Coating the inside of hollow vessels. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Aug. 8, 1961 [Aug. 18, 1960], No. 28660/60. Class 117. [Also in Group XL (a)] In electrostatically coating the inner surface of a hollow vessel, such as a lamp bulb 24, with a powdered material, such as silica, magnesium fluoro-germanate phosphor or coloured glazing, the powder 29 is blown into the vessel from a reservoir tube 1 extending coaxially within and beneath the vessel, the tube 1 supporting the powder 29 together with a supply of milling elements 23, such as glass ballotini, on a diffusing pad 6 through which the gas (air) is fed at a rate, controlled by a valve 5, sufficient only to entrain powder particles below a predetermined size, the larger particles being broken down by circulation with the ballotini for eventual entrainment in the gas stream and delivery within the vessel. The invention allegedly provides a more uniform coating. The pad 6 may be of glass fibre or loosely sintered glass or ceramic particles. The apparatus particularly described is that described in Specification 925,022 which provides for reciprocation of the lamp bulb axially of the tube at different rates at different relative axial positions of the lamp bulb and the tube to provide for delivery of powder commensurate with the size of the zone being coated.
