Abstract
924,743. Water supplies; fire-extinquishing. SULZER FRERES S.A. April 10, 1961 [May 10, 1960], No. 12903/61. Classes 47 and 68 (1). Apparatus for preventing a pressure drop at a discharge point of a pipe-line during the initial discharge of liquid from said point, which may be connected to fire-fighting equipment such as sprinkler nozzles. The apparatus comprises a closed vessel connected to the line near the point, and a source of pressurized gas connected to the vessel through a pressure-reducing valve. During initial discharge of liquid from said point liquid is forced out of the vessel by gas entering the vessel, the liquid from the vessel being of a sufficient quantity to prevent cavitation in the pipe and a pressure drop at the discharge point until liquid has started to flow evenly and satisfactorily through the whole length of the pipe.
