Abstract

924,585. Telescopic lances; feeding granular material. VEREINIGTE OSTERREICHISCHE EISEN - UND STAHLWERKE A.G. July 11, 1961 [July 20, 1960], No. 25098/61. Classes 51 (1) and 51 (2). [Also in Group XXVIII] A device, for blowing a suspension of lime in oxygen on to a melt, comprises a smooth tube connected to a stationary lime supply vessel, and a concentric tube of larger diameter terminating in a nozzle and forming part of a vertically adjustable lance, and being telescopically movable with respect to the inner tube. As shown, the water-cooled nozzle tube 7 is joined at its upper end to a cup bearing 16 engaging a sphere 17, with sealing rings 19, in a globe joint 10. The spherical portion is extended upwards to provide a stuffing-box 9 closed by a plug portion containing a scraper 20. The lower end of the smooth tube 5 extends down through the stuffing-box, and the upper end connects to the lime supply vessel outlet through a globe joint 6 and a T-bend 3.
