Abstract
Uranium hexafluoride is removed from a gas, e.g. effluent from a gaseous diffusion plant, by passing the gas through a bed of granular anhydrus sodium carbonate which is at a temperature of 150 DEG to 200 DEG C. Before use the sodium carbonate may be heated at 110 DEG C. either under low pressure or in air. Preferably the gas passes downwardly through the bed. In the example nitrogen containing 0,25% uranium hexafluoride and 0,1% chlorine trifluoride is treated with the sodium carbonate.
