Abstract

A blast furnace for smelting zinc feeds two condenser systems, each of which has a valve interposed between the condenser and the extractor fan, and suitable control means for the valve. Also provided are means for comparing the volume flows in the two condensers, and means for monitoring the pressures therein. Upon one of the condensers becoming partially blocked by secretions, the valve in the other condenser system is caused to move towards the closed position, whereby equal volume flow through the two condensers is restored, while at the same time maintaining a desired minimum pressure in the blocked condenser.
