Abstract

The invention comprises monoazo compounds of formula <FORM:0924317/IV(a)/1> wherein R is a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl radical, R1 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having 1-3 carbon atoms, X is 0 or 1, R11 is an alkyl group having from 4-6 carbon atoms, R111 is a hydrogen atom or alkyl group having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms and Z is an oxygen atom or an =NH radical. The compounds are used as yellow-coloured magentaforming couplers in photographic silver halide emulsions (see Group XX). The compounds are prepared by coupling a diazotized 4-amino-3:5-dimethylisoxazole or -pyrazole with a suitable pyrazolone. In an example the compound 4-amino-3:5-dimethyl pyrazole--> 1-(21:41:61-trichlorophenyl) -3-[311-(2111:4111-di-tert amylphenoxyacetamido) benzamido]-5-pyrazolone is prepared.
