Abstract
924,279. Air-blast switches. BROWN, BOVERI & CIE A.G. Sept. 15, 1960 [Sept. 15, 1959], No. 31863/60. Class 38 (5). In a gas-blast switch of the kind having at least one arc-extinguishing chamber with an exhaust valve which closes on the extinction of the arc to maintain the contacts open and under pressure, and a main blast valve which controls the admission of compressed air into the chamber when the switch is opened and the release of air from the chamber to effect the closing of the switch, silencers are provided to silence both the blast exhausting through the exhaust valve and the air released from the chamber through the main valve. Fig. 2a shows the main valve 3, which in the position shown releases the compressed gas from the insulating column 5 supporting the arcextinguishing chamber or chambers, the air passing through a silencer 4 into a casing 4a and thence to the atmosphere through openings 4g. In Fig. 3a the gas-blast passes through a nozzle contact 9 and the exhaust valve 11 into a silencer 7. In a modified arrangement, Fig. 4, the silencer 7 is arranged in two parts, each extending around the exhaust valve casing but in opposite directions.
