A float-actuated cistern supply valve is formed of two parts A, B secured together by a stirrup-type readily-releasable coupling 202, one part B including an outlet 195 into the cistern and a pivoted float cover 23 connected to a piston 21 embodying a main movable closure member 211 of rubber or resilient plastic material, which latter is readily replaceable; the other part A, which is secured inside a cistern 14 by a nut 13, includes a water inlet 104, and an auxiliary valve closure 113 adapted to be moved on to a seat 105 to prevent syphoning. The closure 113 also co-operates with another seat 16 to automatically stop uncontrolled filling of the cistern when the parts A, B are uncoupled; the closure 113 has vaned axial projections 115, 116. The seat 16 is held in place by a renewable plastic member 17 threaded into the part A and forming the seat 172 for the main closure 211, through which seat may pass the projection 115 whereby the closure 113 is moved from its seat 16 by the main closure 211 when the parts A, B are connected. The member 17 may be designed for high, medium or low pressure and repairs are facilitated by the coupling 202.
