An oil burner or stove for use with an inverted oil supply tank 16 having a spring closed valve 26 comprises a burner channel 10 containing a wick 12, an oil pipe 14 connecting the burner channel to a reservoir 15 in which the oil tank 16 is supported, a stem 27 in the reservoir 15 for opening the spring closed valve 26 and means for catching oil from the burner channel 10, the oil pipe 14 and the reservoir 15 if the stove is tipped over. The means for catching the oil from the burner channel and the oil pipe comprises an inwardly directed rim 7 on the upper edge of an anti-draught cylinder 5 enclosing the burner and four pockets formed above the rim by raised parts 8. The means for catching the oil from the reservoir 15 comprises inwardly directed rims 19 on the upper edges of three side walls of the reservoir and a pocket 20 in the fourth side wall. The stem 27 for opening the spring-closed valve 26 is carried by a strip 29 rotatably mounted on a vertical spindle 28 at the bottom of the reservoir. If the stove is tipped over the stem disengages from the valve and the strip 29 rotates under its own weight. The strip must be reset manually in correct position before the oil tank 16 is again mounted in the reservoir. The oil pipe 14 passes through a vertical slot in the wall of the anti-draught cylinder. The slot is closed by a slide. The main housing 1 of the stove has a rectangular base.
