Abstract

921,450. Carding-engine flats. T.M.M. (RESEARCH) Ltd. March 14, 1961 [March 18, 1960], No. 9773/60. Class 120 (1). A carding-engine flat consists of a rigid body portion formed from a non-material material in such manner that no subsequent machining is necessary and containing a straight metal reinforcing bar. The flat is preferably compression-moulded from an asbestos-based plastics material and embodies a steel bar 13 that extends over the greater part of the flat but does not penetrate the end bosses, each of which has a central longitudinally extending screw-threaded hole or incorporates a threaded metal tubular insert. The ends of the flats are preferably loaded with graphite to give additional wear resistance.
