921,361. Carding engines. WRIGHT HARGREAVES ENGINEERING CO. Ltd., and G. HARGREAVES. June 4, 1959 [June 23, 1958], No. 20084/58. Class 120 (1). A series of nozzles mounted in overlapping relationship transversely of a carding machine for stripping one or more rollers are connected to a distributer arranged to connect the nozzles successively to a source of suction. Nozzles 14, 15 are mounted adjacent and adjustable relative to swift 11 and doffer 12 and further nozzles may be mounted to strip flats 13 or other rollers of a carding machine. Each nozzle may comprise a tube closed at each end and formed with a narrow slot extending the length of the tube, the nozzle tubes overlapping or a tube may be divided by diametrical partition walls with overlapping slots, but the preferred nozzles are arranged in groups of three having a common side plate and arranged to overlap, Fig. 5. From each nozzle a flexible pipe 21, 30 extends to the distributer 25 where each pipe is in turn connected to a suction pipe 34. The distributer consists of a disc having apertures to which the pipes 21, 30 are connected and a rotary plate with one aperture that can be indexed to align in turn with each disc aperture or with a blank portion of the disc, the rotary plate aperture being connected to suction pipe 34. The indexing of the rotary plate is initiated by depressing a pedal 56 and continues until suction has been applied to each nozzle in turn. According to the Provisional Specification, the indexing may be effected mechanically, electrically or pneumatically in synchronism with the carding machine.
