[Class 100 (i)] [Also in Group XXIV] In a machine for folding and interleaving sheets of paper such as cigarette papers to form packets of a definite number the machine is constructed to insert a dividing strip between the packets in such a manner that the packets are not connected together by interleaving of adjacent sheets. As shown in Fig. 2 the papers are cut and folded longitudinally to produce V-shaped cigarette papers which are fed in succession to oppositely rotating star wheels A', B<SP>1</SP> at station C, and a dividing strip 10 is fed to the wheel A<SP>1</SP> at station D at intervals corresponding to the passage of twenty five notches of a packet of fifty papers is desired. The strip 10 is engaged by the trailing edge of its notch and the folded paper is inserted between it and the leading edge. As the strip 10 is passing between the positions L, L<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 2, it is moved forwards to engage the leading edge of its notch and also to press both edges of the folded paper against the leading edge by means of a spring-controlled tipping finger 12 carried by a block on a chain 13 which moves around rollers 24 on a stationary guide 23 and is driven by an interval sprocket wheel 27 which moves with the driven wheel A<SP>1</SP>. The tipping finger 12 is arranged between the separated members 35, 37, Fig. 3 (not shown) of the wheel A<SP>1</SP>, and is controlled by fixed cam surfaces 32, 30 engaged by a pin 12a on the finger to permit the finger to move clockwise to advance the strip 10 then counterclockwise to release the strip before the paper engaged reaches the interleaving position. The paper is held to the wheels A<SP>1</SP>, B<SP>1</SP>, by suction hetween position C and the interleaving position.
